Sharing The Journey: Empowering Others to Succeed!
Bellflower, CA -- Dec 22, 2012 -- It has been projected that California may be able to meet its projected need for Registered Nurses by the year 2030. However the racial and ethnic disparities in graduation rates of student nurses continues. Today's diverse student population are the nurses of tomorrow. Many of these students are first generation college students and/or new to the healthcare field. Realizing that sometimes their concerns and circumstances become obstacles to success, Mona Clayton began working with student nurses to assist them to stay the course and graduate. She does this by sharing her personal journey through nursing programs and into the professions. She recently published two books "From Student to Nurse," and "The Survival Journey." Mona grew up in South Central Los Angeles, completed her nursing education and earned acclaim as a professional nurse while a single mom. Her story is one of determination. She was nominated as Nurse of the Year at the Southwest Ambulatory Health Center in 2002. In 2012 she received a Commendation from the City of Inglewood in recognition of her service to the community. The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s. salutes this mentor and applauds her as one who will be a true influence in increasing the diversity in Nursing.
