Villager Awards: 2014 Recipients
Long Beach, CAlifornia -- May 10, 2014 -- Rod Rolle is an Award-winning editorial Photographer. Since graduation from Brooks Institute of Photography with a degree in Industrial/Scientific Photo Technology, he has supplied images to Gamma-Liaison, Getty Images, Reuters, and Sipa Press. His editorial work has appeared in over 220 publications in 36 countries: Time, Business Week, US Magazine (US); Stern (Germany); Manchete (Brazil) to name a few. Upon notification of his selection as a recipient of the distinguished "Villager" award he stated: "I believe that to help somebody along the way is the greatest use of my skills and talent." Sojourner Kincaid-Rolle, a UC Berkeley Alumni, is an award-winning published poet, sought after community facilitator, and speaker who brings her deep insights forward in her poems, spoken word, and community engagment activities. Her most recent publication "Black Street" is a riveting all-encompassing expression of Blackness. This couple is active in Santa Barbara and have been leaders in advocating for the inclusion of Black History and experiences in the city's cultural memory. They recently received a Certificate of Commendation from the City of Santa Barbara in recognition of their
