2014 "Villager" Awards

10-May-14 Robin Thorne Receives a 2014 Villager Award
Robin Thorne, well-known Long Beach Chemical Engineer, Entrepreneur, and Community Leader is one of this year's recipients of the Distinguished "Villager" awards.
The "Villager" Awards are given to persons who "lift as they climb" in their personal and professional lives. This year's awards were presented at the Ten Year Anniversary Celebration of The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s held at the Long Beach Hilton Hotel and Conference Center, on May 10, 2014. Robin is the Founder at She Tech - The Movement, President/CEO at CTI Environmental, Inc., Chairperson of the City of Long Beach Sustainable City Commission, and a Past President at American Society of Safety Engineers. She shared her story to encourage and support the journey of present and future generations. She shared with the audience: "My path to engineering and entrepreneurship has not always been smooth and straight. There have been many curves and bumps along the way... I believe it is now my responsibility to offer...opportunities, not only to those who believe, but to give those who may not know what they are capable of, a chance!"
10-May-14 Vice-Admiral Edward Moore and Deborah Moore Honored as distinguished
Vice-Admiral Edward Moore (USN Retired) and his wife, Deborah Moore were honored as recipients of the Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s distinguished "Villager Award" on May 10, 2014. This award touches the heart and soul of the recipients and is presented to those persons who are "Lifting others as they climb." In a recent interview the Moores agreed: "...The need is so great, the draw so compelling, the personal blessings life has bestowed so humbling that it is difficult to resist the call to service." The awards gala was held on May 10, 2014 at the Long Beach Hilton Hotel. Attendees had the opportunity to chat with this dynamic couple and to share stories of making a difference. 10-May-14 Rod Rolle, Santa Barbara Photographer, and Sojourner Kincaid Rolle- Activist Poet/Author Honored!
Dr. Gloria Willingham-Toure' announced that Rod Rolle, and his wife Sojourner Kincaid Rolle are 2014 recipients of the distinguished "Villager Award" from The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s. The award is presented to persons in local communities throughout the country who are making a difference everyday. Rod is an award-winning photographer and a musician whose work is inspirational and documents an otherwise forgotten history. Sojourner brings her deep insights forward in her poems, spoken word, and community engagment activities. Their collective talents are creating a new vision for African-Americans in Santa Barbara and other areas.
10-May-14 Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s Salutes Ms Autrilla Scott
Ms. Autrilla Scott (1930-2013) was one of the Jewels of Long Beach. She believed that the personal history of residents was very important to the forward movement of a community and its people. She is known for her accounts of the childhood of President Bill Clinton based on her experiences as his babysitter when he was growing up in Hope, Arkansas. Later in her life she became a poet-activist and a community organizer. On May 10, 2014, The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s presented its first Posthumous "Villager Award" in honor of Ms. Autrilla Scott. 25-Mar-14 Travis Hicks - Space Engineer Honored
Travis Glenn Hicks, Founder-Ministry to Men program in The Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, and a retired Space Electronics Engineer is one of the recipients of the 2014 "Villager Awards" presented by Afram Global Organization/The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s. The Villager Award is presented to persons who are committed to "Lifting as we climb." The award was presented on May 10, 2014 at the Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s. 10 Year Anniversary Gala held at the Hilton Hotel, Long Beach. Karl Hicks accepted the award on behalf of his father.


 

“Our solutions are bigger than any one profession or job. We must reclaim our interconnections and learn to freely share information with each other, and to support the success of a new generation. We must create connections and collaborations. Our goal must be to move this system in the direction of caring what happens to persons who need it the most, and we must take our place in that effort. We will find a way to make a difference!"
