Travis Hicks - Space Engineer Honored
Meet This Space Electronics Engineer
Long Beach, California -- Mar 25, 2014 -- Travis Glenn Hicks, Founder, Ministry to Men program in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Member- Bethel CME Church, Long Beach, CA is one of the 2014 recipients of the distinguished "Villager" Award. Travis is a Retired Space Electronics Engineer and NASA Space Shuttle Project Engineer with Hughes Aircraft. His specialty is in electronics that control the maneuvering of space shuttles and the hook up to a space station, tracking satellites, communications between space shuttles and the ground. Most notably Travis was the electronics project engineer for the Space Shuttle 'Endeavor'. As a resident of Cerritos, California he stands as a role model and resource to students who otherwise may not have the opportunity to learn more about Science, technology, engineering and math as a possibility in their lives. He states: " I went to college ...I studied electronics because I was curious about the electronics world. In addition to working on the Space shuttles, I later worked on most communication satellites that enable us to do our communications in everyday life.The last satellite that I worked on was with DirectTV. I have a 40+ year career history in Space electronics. Electronics is exciting to me, and I want to encourage that excitement in our young people." He recently received a certificate of commendation from the City of Cerritos acknowledging his work and his contributions to the community. He is married to talented administrator and vocalist, Jacqueline Hicks.
