Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s Salutes Ms Autrilla Scott
Long Beach, California -- May 10, 2014 -- Dr. Gloria Willingham-Toure,' Founder of The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s presented the first Posthumous "Villager" Award in memory of Autrilla Scott - Poet, author, community organizer, activist and retired VA Nurse. Ms. Scott was the childhood babysitter to Bill Clinton during his formative years. Her knowledge is reflected in her books and noted in books about the former president. Mrs. Scott retired after a successful career as an LVN at the VA Medical Center, Long Beach, and became an outspoken, informed, and well-connected grassroots community leader. Committed to setting up neighborhood systems and relationships that would last long after she passed from this earth, she launched campaigns to plant trees in the neighborhood, to clean up the alleyways to allow safer passage, and sponsored annual Easter and Christmas parties for local children. She was a champion for creating positive and supportive relationships in her culturally diverse community. She was the first African American resident of Long Beach, California to have a street named in her honor in her lifetime. She consistently encouraged the development of strategies to bring talents earned during successful careers, life experiences, and spiritual blessings back to our youth as positive role models. Her mantra to The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s. was "don't hide your light under a bush." Afram Global Organization Inc and the Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s. is pleased to keep the legacy of Mrs. Autrilla Scott alive by presenting this Posthumous Award-2014. Mrs. Scott made a difference in many lives.

“Our solutions are bigger than any one profession or job. We must reclaim our interconnections and learn to freely share information with each other, and to support the success of a new generation. We must create connections and collaborations. Our goal must be to move this system in the direction of caring what happens to persons who need it the most, and we must take our place in that effort. We will find a way to make a difference!"
