The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s Salutes Ms. Alise Jene' Harris
Strategies for Prospective Nursing Students
Sep 18, 2008 -- The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s salutes Ms. Alise Jene' Harris. This young lady has worked while attending school as she is moving forward in her desire to become a nurse. She stated last year in a conversation with Village P.r.o.j.ec.t.s advisor: "I really want to attend California State University, Long Beach, but they have a waiting list. I'm also on the waiting list at Long Beach City College for their nursing program." The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s learned that many collegiate nursing programs in the State of California are impacted and often cannot accept all qualified applicants. Waiting lists are subsequently created. This becomes particularly problematic for minority students. Alise has been persistent in her efforts and we learned that she was recently accepted into the nursing program at Long Beach City College. She shared "I am very happy. I plan to complete this program and then go into the BSN program at CSULB." We ask you to please join us in saluting this determined and talented young lady. For those of you who may be discouraged about whether or not you can get into a nursing program, Alise has a story that you need to hear.
