Introducing Dr. Lillian Stokes

Dr. Lillian Stokes RN, PhD is the Supreme Basileus (National President) of Chi Eta Phi, Nursing Sorority Inc. This premier professional nursing organization has a membership inclusive of over 8000 registered nurses and student nurses. As President, Dr. Stokes leads in the fulfillment of the Sorority's commitment of "Service to Humanity." This service commitment embodies remaining close to the community and the needs of the people residing in the community. Dr. Stokes' kind and quiet demeanor is coupled with an ever present commitment to nursing, to creating an environment in which increasing numbers of African-Americans and other minorities can enter nursing and develop a leadership presence that will make a difference in their communities. As a recipient of numerous awards, her work has not gone unnoticed. Dr. Stokes is a recipient of the Madame C.J. Walker Award (Outstanding Women of the Year) from the Center for Leadership Development, and the Distinguished Hoosier Award from the Governor of the State of Indiana. She is a published author and her textbooks are well known in leading nursing schools and libraries throughout this country. In addition to her leadership in Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Inc, Dr. Stokes is also a member of The American Nursing Association, The National League for Nurses, Coalition of 100 Black Women, Links, Inc., and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Dr. Gloria Willingham-Toure', founder of the Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s, and a member of Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Inc. recently stated: " I want our youth and our potential leaders to know our legends and to hear their experiences. One of our goals in the Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s is to bring the work and lives of persons such as Dr. Stokes to the forefront of conversations in our African-American communities, and to connect them with our youth." “Our solutions are bigger than any one profession or job. We must reclaim our interconnections and learn to freely share information with each other, and to support the success of a new generation. We must create connections and collaborations. Our goal must be to move this system in the direction of caring what happens to persons who need it the most, and we must take our place in that effort. We will find a way to make a difference!"
