The National Health Information Center (NHIC) is a health information referral service. NHIC puts health professionals and consumers who have health questions in touch with those organizations that are best able to provide answers. NHIC was established in 1979 by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), Office of Public Health and Science, Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Dr. Sue Reamer, Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s Advisor

Dr. Sue Reamer, a retired nurse with a deep appreciation of the disparities and gaps in privilege often faced by persons  from underserved communities, consented to serve as a member of the Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s advisory board. Additionally, Dr. Reamer is a senior advisor to the Worldwide Network for Gender Empowerment (WNGE) at Fielding Graduate University, and a Senior Scholar, Center or Collaborative Leadership, University of Massachusetts, Boston.

Dr. Carol Parker-Walsh, Parker-Walsh Consulting,  is a phenomenal woman who is a professor, a lawyer, a researcher, and...a member of The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s advisory board.

Vanessa Jones, Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s Advisor
Vanessa Jones is a remarkable young lady having graduated from high school at the age of 15, having acquired two college degrees, and opened her own business, before she was 25. Yet she remains close to her community of origin and finds time to volunteer and to share her story with others, as well as to listen to theirs. The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s is proud to have Vanessa as a member of its Board of Advisors, and a recipient of a Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s leadership award.

Dr. Rachel Plotkin Olumese RN, Village Advisor

Dr. Rachel Plotkin Olumese RN is a real leader in Long Beach and surrounding communities. Her role in community outreach at St. Mary's Medical Center has opened the door for her to expand her wonderful and caring heart and she has become a hub around which various community networks are formed. Rachel moves through grassroots community groups and faith-based groups. She connects them to health information, advocacy, and health care access in ways that are not often seen. She brings a special presence to everything that she does. Dr. Olumese has been a consistent supporter of The Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s since its beginning.  Additionally,  she is a true advocate and connection for students enrolled in nursing at East LA College.

Richard Love, Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s advisor

Richard Love, Publisher, Long Beach Times is a household word in the California African-American community. As one young man remarked: "If you want to know who to talk to ...see Mr. Love. He knows everybody." We are pleased to have Mr. Richard Love as a member of the Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s advisory board.

Dr. Nnenna Weathers R.N. Village Advisor

Nnenna Weathers RN, PhD is a nursing professor at California State University, Los Angeles.  Dr. Weathers is  an active participant in professional nursing organizations, research, community service, and an advocate for her students. She expressed an interest in and served as an advisor to the Village P.r.o.j.e.c.t.s since our early stages of development. Dr Weathers is presently the principal investigator  of a $2.4 million Human Resources and Services Administration (HSRA) grant to alleviate the critical shortage of nurses in the surrounding communities and to support nursing students in completing their academic degrees.
